About Sig and Viv's

Our Story

A few years ago at a dog show, we met a Basset Hound with the most spectacular coat. When we asked the owner her secret, she explained it was down to a raw diet. She went on to describe the many health benefits of “taking your dog back to nature.”

That conversation was a light bulb moment for us. At the time, we were proud “grandpawrents” to our daughter’s dog, Selsig (Sig), who was struggling with persistent skin issues. Despite spending over £2,000 at the vet, nothing seemed to help.

After some research, we switched Sig to a Biologically Appropriate Raw Food (BARF) diet — and within three months his skin had completely healed. He has been healthy and free from those issues ever since. When Viv the Vizsla joined our family nine months later, she too was placed on the same diet, and she thrived.

Why Raw Feeding Matters

Our belief in raw feeding was strengthened after watching the Channel 5 documentary “The Truth About Your Dog’s Food” in January 2014. The programme revealed:

  • Misleading labelling in commercial foods

  • Over-processing that strips away nutrients

  • Use of cheap fillers and preservatives

  • “Meat meal” made from undesirable by-products such as feet and feathers

This convinced us to share what we’d learned. On 11th October 2014, we opened Sig & Viv’s Natural Pet Pantry with a clear mission:

To provide quality, natural pet food made with the best ingredients for healthier, happier pets.

Fast Food vs. Real Food

Ask yourself: would you feed your children fast food every single day?

Of course not. Yet that’s essentially what many mass-produced pet foods are.

Mass-market foods often contain:

  • Cereals, grains, and soya — ingredients dogs are not designed to digest

  • Fillers that can trigger long-term health problems such as itchy skin, ear issues, yeast infections, and anal gland troubles

  • Meat meal and derivatives, which may include feathers, feet, and other low-quality parts of animals

By contrast, Biologically Appropriate Raw Food (BARF) and high-meat content diets offer:

  • Essential vitamins and minerals

  • High-quality proteins

  • 100% British, human-grade ingredients

  • Zero cereals, fillers, or artificial nasties

Just as nature intended.

The Results Speak for Themselves

From our own dogs — and the many pets we’ve supported since 2014 — we’ve seen remarkable transformations:

  • ✨ Healthier skin and shinier coats

  • 🦷 Cleaner teeth and fresher breath

  • ⚡ Better digestion and smaller, less smelly stools

  • 🐕 Increased vitality and calmer behaviour

  • 💨 Relief from IBS, colitis, chronic wind, and joint discomfort

It’s no wonder more and more vets are now recommending a raw diet. After all, it’s what dogs and cats were designed to eat.

A Personal Note

Sig and Viv are the dogs who started it all, and everything we do is inspired by them. Their journeys taught us that the right food can change everything — not just for health, but for happiness too. Every time a customer tells us their pet is thriving on raw, it feels like we’re paying that gift forward.

For us, this isn’t just a business. It’s our passion, our community, and our promise: to give your pets the very best — just as we did for ours.

Meet the dogs behind our brand

Selsig (Sig)

Selsig (Welsh for Sausage!) was our Wirehaired Minature Dachshund, a little dog with a big personality!

Vivienne (Viv)

Viv was our Hungarian Vizsla, a typical Vizsla, inquisitive & independent. A classy lady who was a true Velcro Vizsla!
Both Sig and Viv were on the BARF raw diet and the driving force behind the inception of Sig & Viv's Natural Pet Pantry.

Shelby

Shelby was our beautiful Dogue de Bordeaux, rescued in 2015 after suffering neglect. With love, care, and a raw diet, she transformed into our gentle shop greeter — adored by customers and their dogs alike. Her legacy lives on through The Shelby Foundation, raising thousands to help other dogs in need.
